Planning a New England Road Trip

A couple of summers ago, we started planning a road trip in New England. Our plans changed and we ended up in Europe instead. Since then, we keep coming back to the idea of this road trip around Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, but the timing hasn’t been right.

That changes this summer. We are in the thick of planning a trip from Portland, up to Acadia National Park, through New Hampshire to Burlington.

When we had first started planning this trip two years ago I had purchased a couple of travel books to help with the planning. I’ve been using them to look up locations, where to stay, and what to do.

First, we determined how much time we could spend away from work on this trip and set aside two weeks in the late spring. Next, we planned the route and then determined how many days we wanted to spend at each location. This week, I’ve been researching places to stay based on recommendations in the travel books I have and Trip Advisor, while Sam has been using ChatGPT.

We have most of our lodging booked and get to start thinking more about what to do in each location. So far, I’m looking forward to seeing puffins in Maine, camping in Acadia, taking a train ride in New Hampshire, and spending a lot of time near the ocean or lakes in the areas we will be visiting.

If you have any recommendations for Portland, Boothbay Harbor, Acadia National Park in Maine or Burlington, VT send them my way!
